"Frank Luke Jr."

The "Arizona Balloon Buster" was at the time of his death America's top fighter pilot. Somewhat of an antisocial loner, Luke was not particularly well liked by his fellow pilots. A volatile fighter who seemed unafraid of death, he sought out the German "drachen" because he learned of the expense and difficulty in replacing these essential observation platforms. Often protected by antiaircraft fire and swarms of enemy fighters, they presented a formidable target.

Luke was shot down and subsequently killed on the ground by German soldiers as he blazed away at them with his pistol.
