"The Flying Circus On Dawn Patrol"

Manfred vonRichthofen on patrol in Fokker Dr1 425/17 with brother Lothar vonRichtofen, Ltn Hans Wolff, Ltn Hans Weiss and Ltn Werner Steinhauser of Jasta 11. March, 1918. Even in times of war there are brief moments of peace. I set this painting in March 1918 because these were the last days these pilots would have together. Over the next few months all of these young men but Lothar, flying the yellow-tailed triplane in the foreground, would be lost in combat.
