Michael Backus graduated from the Art Center College of Design in 1979 with a BFA in Illustration and soon opened his own studio. Over the last 30 years Backus Studio has produced commissioned paintings for hundreds of corporate clients. Michael also produces his own limited edition giclèes, using the skills he learned in 20+ years of owning and operating his own art reproduction business. All reproductions of his work are printed by the artist himself in his own state of the art facility.

In 1989 Michael begain participating in the U.S. Air Force Art Program. This is an official branch of the USAF (http://www.afapo.hq.af.mil) responsible for creating a visual history of their service. He has eight works of art in the USAF permanent collection including one on display in the Pentagon in Washington, DC.
